Fun Times with the Pittsburgh Canning Exchange

Cannin_BW_Web-3Canning is an old food preservation technique which is experiencing a revival as part of the local food movement. Many people have taking up the practice to keep the food they buy at farmers markets from spoiling so it can be enjoyed over the colder months. In Pittsburgh, canning is being promoted by a new group called the Pittsburgh Canning Exchange and back in November the Sprout Fund sent me to cover one of their canning swaps. Here are some of my favorite shots from the day.

The swap was held at the Pittsburgh Public Market, where canning aficionados set their home-jarred wares on display then visited the other booths where trade offers were made on paper.
