First Engagement Session with Tarah and Peter

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure to shoot my first engagement session with Tarah and Peter. The two met while attending grad school at Pitt and the city holds a special place in their hearts. They came into town for the weekend and we met up for a Monday afternoon shoot. Unfortunately, the weather was not as agreeable as we’d hoped. It rained all day, and when it wasn’t raining, it was drizzling. Of course a little bit of rain did not deter us and we went on with the shoot anyway. This is Pittsburgh after all. Below are some of my personal favorite shots from the day.

Most of these photos were taken at the Duquesne Incline. The couple wanted to go up to Mt. Washington since that was where Peter proposed to Tarah.

Originally we planned to shoot mostly around Shadyside, but due to the weather we decided to go Whole Foods and get some shots there.

After riding down the aisles we picked up some bananas and took a few photos of them talking into the bananas as if they were phones. Like the song, Bananaphone! I then put these composites together in post. Yes, they’re silly, but the point was to do something fun and quirky.

We ended the day with ice cream at Oh Yeah! in Shadyside. Overall we had a great time and Peter and Tarah were pleased with the way the photos turned out.

If there’s a lesson to learn here, it’s to make the best of any situation. With photography, more often than not you will encounter problems. The lighting is bad, your equipment malfunctions, there’s not enough time, it’s raining. This is especially true when shooting on location. It’s important not to panic and to be able to improvise using whatever is available.

The banana phone shots are really cute and creative. I also like the umbrella shots. Nice job, Ohad!
