IKE, Dazzletine, and the Whiskey Holler at Howlers Cafe

This past Friday I got to see three local bands perform at Howlers Coyote Cafe in Bloomfield, Pittsburgh. As typical for many of these bars, the stage was dimly lit. For these kinds of shoots I like shoot at the highest ISO possible, a wide focal length and a semi-slow shutter speed- slow enough to let in light but fast enough to catch some movement. On this night in particular my camera settings were at 3200 ISO, 2.8-4.0 f-stop, and a shutter speed ranging from 1/40-1/60. These settings create dim images which I then post-process in Photoshop or Lightroom by converting them to black and white and increase the contrast. Its a great technique for getting great photos out of otherwise shitty lighting conditions. You can seem some photos from the show below.
